16FT Junior Sailing Day: 18th March

Sailing was switched to the Sunday of this week to allow for the junior members of the club to experience the thrills of sailing 16ft skiffs. The forecast was for 20-25knots from the South and for once they got it right. As a group they decided the 4 sprint races which were organised would have been to hard to get through in the strong breeze. So they took the kids on ‘joy rides’. With over 40 kids showing up it was tricky getting them from the rescue boats onto the skiffs but after 2 hrs all the kids had been for a sail. There were plenty of high speed thrills and spills, along with a lot of cuts and bruises and damage to boats. But at the end of the day all the kids went away with big smiles and wanting to sail the 16’s again which is a good sign for the club and the future of the 16’s.
