2012 Upper Harbour Championship Notice of Race



To be conducted by the Lane Cove 12 foot Sailing Skiff Club,
on behalf of the NSW 12 foot Sailing Skiff Association


The Lane Cove 12 Foot Sailing Skiff Club Inc. is hosting the Vantage Real Estate 2012 Upper Harbour Championship and invites all members to compete. The regatta will be governed by the ISAF Racing Rules of Sailing, the prescriptions of the AYF, as amended by the N.S.W. 12 Foot Sailing Skiff Association and as amended by the Sailing Instructions.

Eligible skiff’s must be a registered with the NSW 12ft Sailing Skiff Association and hold a valid measurement certificate.


• All entries for the regatta must be received by the Race Secretary before 12:00 noon on Saturday 6th October 2012.
• A $20 “on the day” entry fee will accompany each skiff entry to the Championship unless the Interclub series payment (which includes entry to all programmed interclub events) has been paid to the NSW 12 Foot Sailing Skiff Association.

There will be a briefing at 12:30 PM on Saturday 6th October 2012 at LCSSC Clubhouse.

Racing Area
Races will be conducted on the waters of Sydney Harbour in the area between Goat Island and Gladesville Bridge. Courses may be made available at the NSW 12Ft. Skiff Association website or distributed by email prior to the event and will be available at the briefing.

Sailing Instructions
Sailing Instructions will be available prior to the event by general email and at the briefing.

Participation in recreational activities supplied by or on behalf of or at the Club is at the participant’s own risk. Participants are warned (i) that sailing, boating and associated activities are a dangerous recreational activity and (ii) that by participating in sailing, boating and associated activities they may be exposed to significant risk of personal injury or possibly death. As an indication only, possible risks include personal injury or possibly death caused by (i) vessels, including equipment on vessels, loss of or limited control of vessels, sudden or violent movement by vessels and/or the possibility that vessels may collide and/or participants may fall or be thrown overboard from vessels (ii) slipways, stairs, passageways, structures and buildings, including where all or any of those things are wet or slimy (iii) weather and sea conditions (iv) exposure to the elements for extended periods (v) the absence of immediate medical care and the likelihood that significant delays may occur before medical care is available, and that all or any of these risks may arise notwithstanding the precautions which might be taken by reasonable and experienced persons. It is a term of any contract between the Club and any person for recreation services within the meaning of the Civil Liability Act 2002 (NSW) that the person engages in any recreational activity supplied under or pursuant to that contract at the person’s own risk.

It is the competitor’s decision to enter or to start and continue in any race. Competitors shall accept that their participation is at their exclusive risk in every respect. By way of entry competitors shall indemnify the Organising Authorities, the host Sailing Club, their officers, members, servants and agents in respect to all claims and demands of whatever nature which may be made upon them in connection with or howsoever arising from their participation or intended participation. The Organising Authorities, the host Sailing Club, their officers, members, servants and agents accept no responsibility in respect of loss of life, personal injury or loss or damage to property which may be sustained by reason of their participation or intended participation in an Event or howsoever arising in connection with an Event.

Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party liability insurance with a minimum cover of AUD $5million. All owners/competitors participate in the regatta are deemed to have made a declaration that they hold such cover. Competitors may be required to produce evidence of such insurance and any competitor not holding this cover shall withdraw their entry.

A presentation will be held Lane Cove 12 Ft. Sailing Skiff Club following the race. Following the presentation there will be a family dinner to which all competitors are invited. To assist with catering could each boat intending to compete indicate how many of the crew will intend to stay at the club for dinner. Please provide this information to the undersigned by Wednesday 5th October.
