False starts and unpredictable breezes forced the 16ft to play catch up..

Unfortunately the 16’s did not have a good day of racing last weekend. After two false starts, when the race finally started in a light North easterly, the crew got to the first mark in 6th but went backwards after that. The lead boat managed to stay in it’s own little breeze down the first run getting themselves a 7 minute lead by the next mark which they maintained for the rest of the race, while the rest of the fleet parked up. Half the fleet went right and the rest went left. Unfortunately, the breeze went right and the crew sat in a hole while the other boats that went right got away in the new breeze. The crew spent the day slowly catching up but were unable to catch enough boats by the end of the race to get a good result as the race was shortened.
