LCC Asia Pacific sailing

Jack Dempsey Memorial Sprint regatta, Abbottsford

2 short races scheduled at Abbotsford, end of a south-easterly system, 2nd rig the option chosen by the fleet.

Start of race 1, end of run-out tide skewed the line, bunched starboard start at boat with tack to port to clear the line and head for pressure.

Lead 4 boats out of the start, Sydney Sailmakers/Dimension Polyant, Geotherm, Bigfoot Custom Trapeze Harnesses and Lincoln Crowne and Company gaining and loosing on the windshifts to the top-mark, still bunched at the top, with Sydney Sailmakers/Dimension Polyant around 1st, the other 3 overlapped as they rounded.

Down the run, looking for pressure to carry through the turns in the river channel, Sydney Sailmakers/Dimension Polyant with a little break in a puff, then LCC fgetting a gust pulling intop 2nd.

At the bottom mark LCC spinnaker toucheed the mark in the drop, requiring they do a penalty turn, allowing 3rd and 4th through.

Up the work from the bottom mark like this, back through the shifty stuff at Searles Monument to set for the 2nd and last run, LCC back into 2nd ahead of Geotherm. Back down past Cabarita Point, LCC just ahead of Geotherm, Bigfoot Custom Trapeze Harnesses brought a gust down river with them and passed both into 2nd, relegating LCC to 4th.

Tearing run in big gust to the bottom mark, Geotherm gybed onto port then had to crash-gybe to avoid LCC, infringing and requiring a penalty turn.

LCCs spinnaker-halyard fouled in the drop, allowing Geotherm and Bigfoot Custom Trapeze Harnesses back through, to finish in that order.

2nd Start, tide runninmg in now, LCC at the boat, first to tack to port and toward top mark. Geotherm got a big east shift giving themn a lead, the other 3 front-runners crossing tacks to the top. LCC rounded 2nd with Sydney Sailmakers/Dimension Polyant right under them in the spinnaker set.

Down river, at Searles Monument a crowd of boats required LCC to gybe away from the breeze, Sydney Sailmakers/Dimension Polyant sneaked through and moved away. Down the river off the Cabarita Point the bunch of Sydney Sailmakers/Dimension Polyant, LCC and Bigfoot Custom Trapeze Harnesses all hit by big southerly gust, LCC had to drop the spinnaker to clear the point, the other 2 just scraped around, allowing them to gain, and letting Chapman High Performance Sailing through.

This was the procession for the rest of the race, with Geotherm finishing well ahead in 1st, Sydney Sailmakers/Dimension Polyant 2nd, Bigfoot Custom Trapeze Harnesses 3rd, Chapman High Performance Sailing 4th and LCC 5th.
