Lincoln Crowne 12 Foot Skiff Downhill

Race 4 Lane Cove 12ft Skiff Club

3 October 2015, Lane Cove

The day started with promising signs of a building sea-breeze clear skies and an unusually hot day for the early start to the season. With a light Sou’easter starting to fill in, bets were put on as to whether the breeze was going to shift around to the East/Nor East. Most of the fleet decided to hedge their bets either way and slot in the No.2 Rig except for Gizmo (James Birdsall and Peter Bevis) who went No1 (Big Rig). There were 10 boats on the start line for the long weekend race.

With a handicap start  (highest handicap start first) and predictions of a building sea-breeze, the lead-boats might be to be struggling against boats starting later, however, as it turned out, the reverse occurred, the breeze never did fill in as predicted and the pursuing boats were left with a light Easterly to get them around the course as it slowly died off throughout the day.

Skoll, off on 10 minutes took out the double on scratch and handicap win beating Lincoln Crown (off on scratch) ahead of Bigfoot Custom Trapeze harnesses (off on 3 minutes) and then Sydney Sailmakers/Dimension Polyant (off on scratch). Gizmo came in with a second on Handicap, not quite able to keep the distance between the chasing Skoll coming into the finish. Chapman High Performance Sailing saw veteran skipper Jack Winning finishing a very respectable third on handicap.
